CDL Training School
A CDL Training School and its Instructors provide specialized instruction to prepare students for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), essential for a truck driving career in the U.S.
Below you will find information and forms related to becoming a new CDL Training School Program, becoming a new CDL Training School Instructor, or recertifying as either a School or Instructor.

Becoming A CDL Training School
Who Can Become a CDL Training School?
Any person, partnership, limited liability company, corporation, association, or other legal entity engaged in giving driving instruction to ten (10) or more persons per calendar year for the purpose of meeting requirements for CDL licensed driving of Commercial Motor Vehicles in the State of Georgia, except an accredited Board of Education Program or College operated by this State, county, or municipality.
If you are interested in becoming a certified CDL Training School, you will be subjected to the following federal and state rules and regulations:

Requirements
- Completed CDL Training School Application.
- GAPS fingerprinting for all applicants (owners, partners, officers, stockholders).
- $25 non-refundable fee.
- $10,000 Surety Bond per location (exempt for governmental entities).
- Liability Insurance ($100,000/$300,000/$50,000, DDS as holder; exempt for governmental entities).
- Certificate of Occupancy or Fire Code Inspection (under 90 days old).
- Unexpired Business License.
- Certificate of Incorporation or DBA registration.

- Business hours, CDL curriculum, and 62,500 sq ft training range (gravel/concrete/asphalt).

Becoming A CDL Training School Instructor
Who Can Become a CDL Training School Instructor?
Any person employed by a certified CDL Training School to give driving instructions to students for the purpose of meeting commercial driver’s license requirements in the State of Georgia.
Individuals interested in becoming a certified CDL Training School Instructor will be subjected to the following federal and state rules and regulations:

Requirements
- Completed
CDL Instructor Application .

GAPS fingerprinting for background checks.
- $30 non-refundable fee.
- Certified MVR from all states licensed in the past 5 years (except Georgia).
- Signed lab report (within 30 days) for drug screening (amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates, phencyclidine).
- Signed Medical Card.
- Employment letter from a DDS-certified school (within 90 days).
- Pass DDS instructor training and exam.
