A DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program provides a standardized screening assessment to evaluate an individual’s alcohol and drug use, along with a DDS-approved therapeutic education course focused on alcohol, drug use, and driving.

Who Can Become a Program Owner?
Any person, partnership, limited liability corporation, or corporation offering driver safety instruction to assist individuals in maintaining or regaining a driver’s license or driving privileges in Georgia is eligible.
If you are interested in opening or operating a DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program, you will be subject to the following rules and regulations:

Requirements

- Completed New Program Application
- All applicants (owners, partners, corporate officers, and/or controlling stockholders) must:
- Complete GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check
- Submit a certified Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from each state (except Georgia) where licensed in the past 5 years
- Surety Bond with a $10,000 principal sum for each location, naming Georgia DDS as the obligee
- Fire Code Inspection Report (completed by local fire marshal or agent, not over 90 days old)
- Copy of unexpired Business License
- Certificate of Incorporation from the Secretary of State or a Trade Name form from the local County Clerk showing registration of Doing Business As (DBA).

- To be considered for certification, please submit your information and required supporting documentation online by completing this application. All required supporting documents must be attached to the application online before it is submitted. Paper applications are no longer accepted

Recertification for DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program
Overview
DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program certification is valid for up to four (4) years. The Director should apply for recertification within 60-90 days of expiration.
Requirements

- Completed Instruction Recertification Application
- GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check
- Certified MVR from each state (except Georgia) where licensed in the past 5 years
- 32 contact hours of approved continuing education
- Documentation (e.g., class rosters or a letter from the program owner/director) showing at least four (4) classes taught within the current certification period

Becoming a DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program Instructor
Who Can Become an Instructor?
Any individual certified by the DDS to instruct the Intervention Component of the DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program qualifies. If interested, you will be subject to the DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program Rules and Regulations.
Requirements

- Completed New Instructor Application
- National and state fingerprint-based criminal background check
- Certified MVR from each state (except Georgia) where licensed in the past 5 years
- Choose one certification method:
- Method 1: Official transcript for an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university
- Method 2: Copy of high school diploma/GED and a notarized letter (on company letterhead) signed by a company administrator, verifying at least two (2) years of full-time work as a licensed substance abuse counselor (including 6 months as a group counselor or facilitator), with details on employment dates, hours worked per week, duties, and subjects taught.

DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Instructor Recertification
A DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Instructor certification is issued for a period of up to four (4) years. The Director should apply for recertification within 60-90 days of expiration.
Requirements
- Completed Instruction Recertification Application.
- Complete GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check.
- Certified Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from each state in which they were licensed in the past 5 years except Georgia.
- Thirty-two (32) contact hours of approved continuing education.
- Documentation, such as class rosters or a letter from program owner/director, showing at least four (4) classes have been taught withing current certification period.
