Have questions about donation?
Frequently asked questions:
-
Will doctors still try and save my life?
Yes. Your life always comes first. Doctors and nurses do everything they can to save you. Organ donation is only considered after all life-saving efforts have been tried.
-
Can anyone donate?
Yes! People of all ages and backgrounds can be donors. Even people with health conditions like diabetes, Hepatitis C, or HIV may be able to donate. Doctors will decide what can be safely donated.
-
Will it affect my funeral?
No. Donation is a respectful surgery done in a hospital. You can still have an open casket funeral if you choose.
-
Does my religion support donation?
Most major religions support organ, eye, and tissue donation as a generous and loving act. Many leave the choice up to each person. If you have specific questions about your religious views on donation, contact your faith leader.
-
Is there a cost to be an organ, eye and tissue donor?
No. Donor programs cover all costs related to donation. Your family or insurance is only responsible for the medical care you receive before donation and for your funeral costs.
