Third Party Testing Overview

The Third Party Testing Program allows specially licensed Driver Training Schools and Instructors, certified by the Georgia DDS, to administer the driver’s license road skills test to students who have successfully completed an approved driver education program.

If you are interested in the operating as a Third Party Tester, you will be subjected to the following rules and regulations:

  • Becoming a Third Party Tester

    Who Can Become a Third Party Tester?

    • A full-service Driver Training School certified by DDS for at least two calendar years without noncompliance.
    • "Full-service" means offering both 30-hour classroom instruction and 6-hour behind-the-wheel training.

    Requirements

    • Completed New Program Application.
    • GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check for all applicants (owners, partners, corporate officers, controlling stockholders, and/or high school directors).
    • Certified Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from each state of licensure in the past 5 years (except Georgia) for all applicants.
    • Signed and initialed DDS Third Party Tester Agreement by all applicants.
    • Third Party Examiner Application(s) with supporting documents.
    • Primary and Alternate Road Skills Test Routes (developed using the Guidelines for Development of Road Skills Test Routes).

    2. To be considered for certification, please submit your information and required supporting documentation online by completing this application.  All required supporting documents must be attached to the application online before it is submitted.  Paper applications are no longer accepted

    Application Process

Once the application and supporting documentation are received, we will contact you within 7-10 business days.

  • Recertification for Third Party Testers

    Overview

    • Certification lasts up to four years.
    • Apply for recertification 60-90 days before expiration.

    • Completed Program Recertification Application.
    • GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check for all applicants.
    • Certified MVR from each state of licensure in the past 5 years (except Georgia) for all applicants.
    • Signed and initialed DDS Third Party Tester Agreement by all applicants.

  • Becoming a Third Party Examiner

    Who Can Become a Third Party Examiner?

    • A Driver Training Instructor certified by DDS for at least two calendar years without noncompliance, employed by a Third Party Tester.

    Requirements

    • Submit a TPT New Examiner Application.
    • GAPS fingerprinting for a national and state criminal background check for all applicants.
    • Provide a certified MVR from each state of licensure in the past 5 years (except Georgia).
    • Signed and initialed DDS Third Party Tester and Examiner Agreement by the applicant and program owners.
    • Completed and notarized DDS Third Party Examiner Affidavit.
    • Pass the DDS-administered instructor training and examination.
