Board of Directors' Message
The Department of Driver Services (DDS) Board of Directors would like to remind our customers that driving in Georgia is a privilege that carries many responsibilities. Please be a safe and dependable driver to ensure that this privilege will not be lost. This manual has two main purposes:
- to help you qualify for a Georgia commercial driver's license; and
- to help you become a safe driver.
This guide is designed to provide you with the information to obtain and keep this type of license. Other manuals are available for non-commercial drivers, motorcycle operators, and teens learning to drive.
CDL Road Testing Options
DDS is working toward transitioning to the new Federal Modernized Testing Format at all CDL testing locations statewide.
For the latest information, please visit dds.georgia.gov to select a location and secure a reservation.
Beginning 2023, these DDS Customer Service Center (CSC) locations will be offering the Modernized Skills Test. The Modernized CDL Test Study Guide for this new testing process begins under the heading "Modernized CDL Testing".
Between Modernized Testing and Original CDL Testing
Forsyth Modernized Testing and Original CDL Testing
- All other CSCs will offer the Original CDL Testing but will transition to the Modernized Testing in the future.
- Customers that begin a skills test and fail a section must retest with the same type test.
