The Georgia Department of Driver Services offers renewal by mail options. These options are available for U.S. citizens who are unable to renew their licenses in person.
If your license is a Real ID document, you can renew your Georgia driver's license, permit, or ID online. Your Real ID license or id will have a black or gold star in the top right-hand corner.
The following customers can apply for a mail-in renewal:
Customers in the military and their dependents stationed out of state.
Customers who attend school out of the State of Georgia, and their dependents who are with them. Only allowed for one issuance.
Customers who are working out of state, and their dependents who are with them. Only allowed for one issuance.
Handicapped customers who are unable to visit a DDS Center will receive a Georgia ID card only.
Drivers 64 and older who are unable to visit a DDS Customer Service Center. Please visit the Senior Drivers page for more information on renewing your license.
To apply by mail, customers must submit the Mail-In Renewal Packet . Please follow the instructions to complete the forms and submit them to DDS to begin the process.
Please note: Once a customer has applied, it usually takes about thirty (30) days for the application package to process. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend that you submit your completed package to DDS at least sixty (60) days before your license expires.
