Twenty years ago, the Department of Driver Services (DDS) was created to improve the driver licensing process, to reduce customer wait time and improve service delivery.  DDS has accomplished those things tenfold and has grown into one of the most respected state agencies in the nation.

DDS Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon commented, “Our team of dedicated, hardworking and engaged team members combined with cutting-edge technology has helped us reach those goals. DDS is serving more customers than ever, and the wait times are shorter.”

Wait times have decreased from one hour to under five minutes in most locations.  (Time is measured from the time a customer gets a ticket number until they are called to the counter).

Virtual road tests, customer service kiosks, Georgia’s Digital Driver’s Licenses & IDs and now the new VIP Fast Lanes in all centers have helped propel DDS to a national leader in customer service and document security.

In addition, the DDS Team contributes to the community several times a year with charitable donations to a variety of nonprofit organizations.  Team members are also involved in public events at schools, conferences and community centers dispersing driver education and licensing issuance information.

Commissioner McClendon added, “I would like to thank Governor Kemp, members of the Georgia General Assembly and the DDS Board of Directors for their guidance.”
