The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP) urges all future and current motorcycle riders to make a resolution to take a motorcycle safety class. An exciting addition for training in 2024 – the program has recently received twelve new KTM motorcycles!

“Education and skills training is key to ensuring safe motorcycle riding practices," said DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore. GMSP allows us to offer top-notch safety classes, and the inclusion of new motorcycles in our training fleet adds an exciting dimension to the learning experience."

The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) provides a motorcycle for the students to use during the 2-day course. In that course, students will learn how to safely operate a motorcycle from basic controls, and how to be a safer, and more responsible rider. On the range, the RiderCoach will guide students through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, turning, and gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking. The Basic RiderCourse enrollment fee for Georgia Residents is $250, and the Out-of-state fee is $300.

GMSP Manager, Holly Hegyesi, suggests taking a course whether “you’re interested in learning as part of your 2024 goals to ride a motorcycle, or you’re an experienced motorcyclist interested in refreshing skills and advancing your safety knowledge, the DDS GMSP has a rider safety course for you!”

The Basic RiderCourse 2 (BRC2) is for riders who already have basic skills. This 1-day course is like the BRC except speeds are higher and students provide their motorcycle (GMSP does not provide motorcycles for this course). This is an excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing riding skills. The Basic RiderCourse 2 enrollment fee for Georgia Residents is $100, and the Out-of-state fee is $150.

The Advanced RiderCourse (ARC) helps experienced riders develop more finesse for handling their motorcycle in traffic and challenging road situations. This 1-day class will have an experienced RiderCoach on hand to analyze riding form, improve riding skills, improve perception and road hazard awareness, and help the student be more comfortable on the road. The Advanced RiderCourse enrollment fee for Georgia Residents is $100, and the Out-of-state fee is $150.
