Georgians in Compliance with Real ID Ahead of Due Date
99.91% of Valid Driver License/ID Card Holders are Real IDs.
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has recently announced that Georgians should not encounter issues when the Real ID Homeland Security Rules are enacted on May 7, 2025. That is because 99.91% of valid Driver License/ID card holders are already Real ID compliant.
"Georgia's compliance with the Real ID Act is a testament to the dedication of our team and the proactive efforts of our residents. As we approach the May 2025 deadline, we are proud to be leaders in the country in ensuring secure and standardized identification for all Georgians.”
Homeland Security’s Real ID Rules require all Georgians to bring original documentation to prove identity and residency even if they had been licensed for years. DDS began this process in 2012 which enabled most Georgia drivers to obtain a Real ID at their regular renewal cycle.
There are over eight million drivers in Georgia – 8,851,343. Of that number 8,843,356 Georgians have Real IDs – 99.91%
The Real ID Act came from a recommendation from the 9/11 Commission to allow the TSA to only accept licenses and IDs with added security measures when identifying travelers at checkpoints and screenings and accessing certain federal facilities including nuclear power plants.
