Encourages Motorists to Be Aware of Human Trafficking Indicators

January is designated National Human Trafficking Prevention Month to bring attention to the epidemic of human trafficking in this country. Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) continues to fight against this horrendous crime by educating Team Members and motorists to recognize and report human trafficking indicators on the road.

DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore commented, “DDS works in tandem with groups like the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) and Georgia’s Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force to help educate the public about this horrendous crime.”

Truck drivers are the eyes and ears of our nation highway systems and equipping the industry with a network of truckers against trafficking is a step towards helping eradicate the crime. The Georgia Legislature has mandated human trafficking awareness and prevention courses to commercial drivers. Legislation was also enacted to impose a lifetime CDL disqualification to anyone operating a commercial vehicle when used to commit human trafficking.

To bring justice to victims and put an end to human trafficking, learn the signs and report suspicious activity to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. The Georgia Coalition to Combat Human Trafficking also has a 24/7 hotline at 1-866-ENDHTGA (1-866-ENDHTGA).
