1. How do I obtain the new limousine license plate?
Contact your local Tag Office or Georgia Department of Revenue for information on the new limousine license plate requirements.

2. How do I apply for a For-Hire License Endorsement?
For-hire license endorsement applications must be submitted through DDS Online Services. In order to successfully submit the application, you must complete the application, upload all required documents, and pay online the $15 application fee. You will receive a confirmation when your application has been submitted and you may check the status of your application by logging into your DDS Online Services account and selecting the For-hire License Endorsement option. All applicants are required to submit electronic fingerprints through the Georgia Applicant Processing System as part of the application process.

3. If I experience problems with a chauffeur, taxi cab driver, or rider share driver what can I do?

4. How long is a For-hire Endorsement valid?
For-hire Endorsements are valid for the term of your Driver’s License unless it is suspended, revoked, or canceled. Those issued prior to July 1, 2012, are valid for a four year term unless it is suspended, revoked, or canceled.

5. Where can I find information to start a limousine company, taxi service or ride share network?
Although DDS regulates chauffeurs, taxi cab drivers, and ride share drivers who have For-hire License Endorsements and are employed by limousine companies, taxi services and ride share networks, the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) is the state agency that regulates those companies. Visit www.dps.georgia.gov for a list of certified limousine companies, taxi services, and rider share networks or information on starting your own company.

6. What is the process for renewing the For-hire Endorsement?
The renewal process is handled in the same manner as an application for a new For-Hire-Endorsement. Sign in or create an Online Services account to renew your For-Hire Endorsement.

7. Do I have to be employed by a limousine company, taxi service or ride share network to apply for a For-hire Endorsement?
Yes. All applicants must be employed by a taxi service, limousine company, or ride share network that holds a Class B Carrier Certificate issued by the Georgia Department of Public Safety. You must upload a letter from a For-hire company showing proof of employment/affiliation when you submit your application through DDS Online Services.

8. Do I need a For-hire Endorsement if I only drive a sedan limousine?
Anyone driving a vehicle operated by a limousine company, which includes but is not limited to sedans, sport utility vehicles, vans, and extended limousines, must either hold a For-hire Endorsement on their Georgia Driver’s License OR obtain a private background check certification through the limousine company that employs them

9. Will my For-hire Endorsement be included on my MVR?
No, your For-hire Endorsement will not be included on your MVR. The endorsement appears on the back of the Driver’s License.

10. Do I still need a For-hire Endorsement if I have a CDL?
Anyone driving a vehicle operated by a limousine company must either hold a For-hire Endorsement on their Georgia Driver’s License or obtain a private background check certification through the limousine company that employs them.

11. I am having trouble accessing my Online Services Account and/or resetting my password. Who do I contact?
For assistance with your DDS Online Services account please contact 678-413-8400. Please tell the customer service agent your specific issue to ensure your call is handled appropriately.

12. Can a taxi cab driver or ride share driver apply for the For-hire endorsement prior to July 1, 2015?
No, applications for the For-hire endorsement will be available on July 1, 2015.

13. If I currently hold a valid Chauffeur Endorsement, do I have to apply for a For-hire Endorsement?
No, you will only have to apply for the For-hire endorsement when your Driver’s License expires OR you may opt to obtain a private background check certification through the limousine company where you are employed

14. Is it mandatory for taxi cab drivers, limousine chauffeurs, and ride share drivers to have a For-hire License Endorsement?
No, they may opt to obtain a private background check certification, which is valid for 5 years, through the taxi service, limousine carrier, or ride share network service that employs them.

15. I hold a Chauffeur Permit that was issued prior to July 1, 2012. Is my permit still valid? Do I need to obtain a new one?
On July 1, 2012, DDS began issuing Driver’s Licenses with the “C” Endorsement to qualified individuals. Any permit that was issued prior to the law change and that has not expired is still valid. Chauffeurs that were issued permits prior to July 1, 2012, have the option to update their Driver’s License with the For-hire Endorsement. Upon expiration of your Driver’s License you may submit an application for the For-hire Endorsement OR obtain a private background check certification through your employer if you wish to continue to be a limousine chauffeur.

16. What is a For-hire License Endorsement?
Effective July 1, 2015, Georgia limousine chauffeurs, taxi cab drivers, and ride share drivers must have either a private background check certification through the limousine carrier, taxi service, or ride share network service that employs them OR a For-hire endorsement on their Georgia Driver’s License. The For-hire license endorsement is valid for the term of the Driver’s License. The criminal record look back period is now 7 years compared to the previous 10 years for Chauffeur Endorsement applicants.
