Georgia Digital License & ID (mDL) & Law Enforcement
The Georgia State Patrol is now accepting Georgia’s mDL!
-
Can I use my Georgia Digital Driver’s License & ID to drive?
Yes. It is a valid driver’s license. Currently in Georgia, the Georgia State Patrol is the only law enforcement agency accepting digital cards. Continue to carry your physical driver’s license until more widely accepted.
-
If I am stopped by the Georgia State Patrol and want to present my Georgia Digital Driver’s License/ID via my wallet, what should I do?
Let the officer know that your license is in your digital wallet and wait for their instructions. To present your Georgia Digital Driver’s License/ID, you do not need to hand over your smartphone.
-
Can police see any information on my phone if I present my license via digital Wallet during a traffic stop?
The officer only receives the specific information shown on the consent sheet before you authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID. They cannot see any other content on your phone, and you don't need to unlock or hand over your device in order to present your ID.
-
What information does the Law Enforcement Organization receive when I present my Georgia Digital Driver’s License/ID?
They receive the same information they would from your physical driver’s license. The verification process mirrors a traditional traffic stop. No additional data or checks are introduced when you use your Georgia Digital Driver’s License/ID. The officer cannot access any additional information from your device.
-
How can I tell if a Police Officer has read my ID in Apple Wallet?
Check your transaction history. Tap any transaction to see the date, data shared, and information about the agency that requested it.
-
What happens if my device is out of battery, lost, or damaged? Can I still present my Georgia Digital Driver’s License/ID?
When law enforcement requests your driver's license, you must be able to present it. Always carry your physical credential as a backup.
-
What if I’m from out of state - can I present my digital license/ID from another state?
Yes. If your digital license/ID is valid and compliant, the Georgia State Patrol will be able to accept it. Keep in mind that acceptance varies by agency, so carrying your physical credential is still required.
