  • 1. What is Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Wallet?

    Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID is a voluntary, secure, digitized version of your GA DDS-issued driver license (DL) or identification card (ID) available in Google Wallet. Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID offers even more security than the physical, plastic DL/ID because you get to choose what personal information you share with others. It is only available to individuals that have a current, valid Georgia-issued driver’s license or ID card.

  • 2. What do I need to use Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID?
    • Have an eligible Georgia driver’s license or state-issued identification card.
    • To enroll and use Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID:
    • ​You must have a valid and easily readable Georgia driver license or state-issued ID card.
    • ​Google Wallet installed on an Android device shipped with software version 8.0 (Oreo) or higher
    • An authentication method for your device (e.g. fingerprint or PIN)
    • Your device region set to United States

  • 3. How Do I get a Georgia Digital DL or ID for Google Wallet?

    To get Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID on your Android device, start with the Google Wallet app. Google Wallet can also be downloaded in Google Play. You must have Google Wallet installed to continue. 

    1. ​On your Android device, open the Google Wallet app.
    2. Tap the Add to Wallet button.
    3. Tap ID Card and choose your state.
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to scan the front and back of your license or ID.

    After your request has been approved, you will see your Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in the Google Wallet app. ​

  • 4. I’m not seeing the option to add my Georgia Digital DL/ID in Google Wallet?

  • 5. I'm having trouble scanning the barcode on the back of my Georgia license. What can I do?

  • 6. I don’t have my physical card (lost or damaged). What should I do?

    The verification process involves capturing a photo of the front and back of your physical card. If you don’t have one, you can request a duplicate Driver’s License or ID card through your DDS Online Services Account.

  • 7. How long does it take to begin using Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID?

    For most users, approval will happen same-day. For others, additional verification may be needed by logging onto their DDS Online Services account.

    If you do not have a DDS Online Services account, you will need to create an account​ in order to access the information for your Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID.

  • 8. My request for a Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID needs additional verification – what does that mean?

    In some cases, additional verification will be needed to participate in Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID.  Many customers will receive instructions from Google Wallet and will be able to verify using their DDS Online Services account​.

    Sometimes this will require a confirmation code that will be sent to you by mail. If your case requires additional verification, you will receive a notification from Google Wallet with directions on how to move forward.

  • 9. My request for a Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID was rejected – what does that mean?

    Try to submit the request again. Make sure the lighting is good and you follow the instructions until the end. Be sure that you are using your most recent card that was issued by DDS.  You should conduct the gestures in front of a blank wall or somewhere that does not have people or activity behind you.

  • 10. What are the most common reasons customers can’t add (provision) their DL/IDs to their device?

    • The lighting around your video matters: don’t take your video in a vehicle; use a blank (wall) background

    •    Hats and glasses can interfere with provisioning

    •    Take the photo of your license/ID on a neutral background (plain desk or table) no tablecloths

    •    Be sure you are using your most recent license or ID when taking the photo

  • 11. I am not able to physically complete the gestures required to enroll in Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID on Google Wallet, what can I do?

  • 12. Does Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID replace my physical, plastic driver license?

    No. In accordance with O.C.G.A § 40-5-29, all drivers must have his or her driver's license in his or her immediate possession at all times when operating a motor vehicle and law enforcement can require drivers to display their physical driver’s licenses. Therefore, the Georgia Digital License is not a replacement for your physical card when you are driving a vehicle.

  • 13. Do I need to have a Real ID to add my Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID?

    Yes, you are required to have a Real ID to add your ID to Google Wallet.

  • 14. How do I present my ID in Google Wallet?

    Information is all shared digitally, so you do not need to show or hand over your device to present your ID in Google Wallet.

    Present with Near-field Communication (NFC)

    1. ​Ensure that Near-field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth are enabled on your device. 
    2. Unlock and hold the top of your device near the identity reader.
    3. Your device screen displays the information that will be shared.
    4. Authenticate to verify it’s you 
    5. A check mark appears when you successfully present your driver's license or state-issued ID.

    Present with QR

    1. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your device. 
    2. Open up Google Wallet and select your driver’s license or state-issued ID
    3. Click “View Code” to bring up the QR code
    4. Scan the code on the identity reader
    5. Your device screen displays the information that will be shared.
    6. Authenticate to verify it’s you 
    7. A check mark appears when you successfully present your driver's license or state-issued ID.

  • 15. Does Law Enforcement Accept Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet?

    No, law enforcement does not accept Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID, users should continue to carry their physical license with them at all times.

  • 16. Is my Georgia Digital ID in Google Wallet valid in other states or internationally?

    At this time Georgia Digital ID on iPhone and Apple Watch is only accepted at select airport terminals around the country, determined by TSA. Please visit TSA.gov for the most up to date support for Georgia Digital ID in Google Wallet,

    Georgia Digital ID is a companion to your physical, plastic driver license or ID card, which you should continue to carry.

  • 17. How do I know Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID is secure?

    Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID verifies your identity by performing image comparisons and validating data on-file with Georgia DDS. This verification must be complete before a Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID may be approved. Once approved, all data is stored securely on your device, protected by both hardware and software security, inaccessible to anyone but you. Only when you unlock your device can your information be presented, so in the unfortunate instance your phone is lost or stolen, no one will be able to use your Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID without your authentication.​

  • 18. Is there a charge to use Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet?

    The Google Wallet app that holds Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID is free to use and comes pre-installed on many Android devices. GA DDS is not currently charging any additional fee to use Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID.

  • 19. What does Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet do with my data?

    Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet doesn't collect, track, store who you present your ID to. An encrypted version of your DL/ID information is securely stored on the mobile device when approved for Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID.

  • 21. How do I remove Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet from my device?

    If you wish to remove Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet from your device, you may delete directly from the Google Wallet app or remotely from your Google Account. In the Google Wallet app, select your driver's license or state-issued ID and follow these steps:

    ​Tap the three dots in the top right corner. 

    Tap Remove and confirm.

    To remove your Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID from your Android device and Google Wallet remotely:

    ​Visit myaccount.google.com in the Personal Info tab, scroll down to “Digital ID” which shows which credentials are on your Android devices. Click “Manage digital ID”

    The page will show that there is a driver’s license added to your Google Wallet but will NOT display your ID details: these are not visible to Google. Click on the trash bin icon to remotely delete the credential from your device.

    You will be shown a screen asking you to confirm that your ID will be deleted from your device and can be added again in the Google Wallet app.

    After confirmation, your ID will be deleted from your device and Google Account.

    You may also log on to DDS Online Services  to remove your enrollment if you do not have access to your device.

  • 22. I removed Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet from my device, but I want to get it back.

    If you previously removed Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID from your wallet, but would like it back, open the Google Wallet app and begin a new Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID request.

  • 23. I have a new phone – can I transfer my Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet?

    There is currently no transfer option for Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID. You must submit a new Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID request and have the request approved by GA DDS with every new phone. Please note:   Submitting a new request will cancel the Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID on a previously used phone – Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID may only be active on one phone and one paired watch at a time.

    You will need to remove your driver's license or state ID card from your Google Wallet if you want to associate your driver's license or state ID card with a different Google Account or add your driver's license or state ID card to a new device.

  • 24. What should I do if I lose my device with the Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID in wallet?

    From another Android device or a web browser logged into Google.com, you may visit myaccount.google.com to delete your digital ID remotely. Alternatively, you may also logon to your DDS Online Services  account​ to pause or remove Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID from your device.

  • 25. I do not want a Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID; what can I do?

    If you are not interested in Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID and want all requests on your account to be rejected, please click ‘Lock Enrollment’ in the Credentials section.  You may ‘Unlock Enrollment’ if you decide later that you do not want to opt out).

  • 26. Do I need a Mobile or Physical boarding pass if I have Digital Driver’s License and ID in Google Wallet?

    Yes, you should always carry the mobile or physical copy of the boarding pass with the ID in Google Wallet. For additional verification, a TSA​ Agent can ask to see your Mobile or Physical boarding pass. In some instances, customers may still need to undergo enhanced screening, even if you have Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID.
