GA Department of Driver Services (DDS) Technology Upgrade Adds Security
As doing business online continues to grow, it is more important than ever to protect your personal information especially the information found on your Georgia driver’s license (DL) or State identification card (ID). These credentials are highly targeted by criminals attempting to commit identity theft or fraud because of the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that it contains.
An upcoming state technology upgrade called DRIVES -- Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System – will ensure that Georgians have access to the most recent security enhancements and software available whether they are visiting in person or making an online transaction.
This upgrade modernizes the current DDS Driver’s License system and the Department of Revenue (DOR) Tag & Title system. The new system will improve customer service and enhance data integrity.
“Identity theft is at an all-time high. Creating a DDS Online Account or reestablishing an account after the upgrade ensures that your personal and private information remains secure,” said Commissioner Spencer R. Moore.
DDS locations will be closed for the system upgrade from January 14 through January 18, 2021 During the closing, customers will not be able to visit in person or utilize DDS Online Services or the DDS 2 Go mobile app. As customers access DDS online services or the DDS 2 Go mobile app, beginning on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, those with existing accounts will be prompted to reestablish their account to benefit from the security enhancements.
While DDS and State Government as a whole have incorporated information security and data protection measures to safeguard all customer's PII, there are many ways that you can help protect your private information.
- Be careful about sharing your driver’s license and social security number.
- Know the risks of using public Wi-Fi.
- Get creative with security questions.
- Use strong passwords.
- Watch out for phishing scams.
