GA Department of Driver Services (DDS) Urges Preparation for Summer Flyers

Check TSA Website for Acceptable Documents for Airport Screening

If your summer vacation plans involve flying, getting to the airport early with your acceptable identification in hand is the best way to ensure smooth travel and reduce checkpoint delays.  The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) reminds customers that anyone with a temporary driver’s license or ID Card issued from a DDS center should bring additional identification or arrive early to avoid delays that could impact your plans.

DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore’s best advice is to obtain a state driver’s license or renewal in ample amount of time to receive the permanent card in the mail.  It typically is delivered to your residence in approximately two weeks.  Additionally, many customers are able to take advantage of DDS Online Services – eliminating the trip to a DDS center and the necessity for a temporary license or ID.

“The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) offers comprehensive information on its website about acceptable forms of identification when traveling through airport security checkpoints,” said Commissioner Moore.  Customers may access the TSA web site for a list of acceptable identity documents at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification.  It is recommended arriving up to two hours ahead of departure for domestic travel and three hours ahead for international.

Before visiting the DDS, please check our website at www.dds.georgia.gov to use Online Services or to Skip a Step! and complete the necessary paperwork before arriving.
