Two Day CDL Retest Amendment

July 5, 2016

The Georgia Department of Driver Services is pleased to announce that an administrative rule amendment regarding the two (2) day retest is effective today.

   CDL Rule 1-1-08    Failures/Written/Skills Test

The purpose of the amendment is to modify the retest period for failures on CDL tests. The previous rule stipulated that any applicant who fails the examination may re-attempt the examination one (1) day after the first failure and seven (7) days after the second or subsequent failures. This amendment changes the retest period to two (2) days for both the CDL Written and CDL Road Skills Tests.

This amendment allows the agency to enhance customer service, maximize the CDL testing capacity, and support economic development. Additionally, it helps to meet the demand for qualified CDL drivers while maintaining highway safety. The amendment will have a positive impact on DDS CDL sites as well as the CDL Third Party Testing sites.

The Department’s staff looks forward to assisting and answering any questions you may have. We can be reached by phone at 678-413-8426 or via e-mail at reginfo@dds.ga.gov.
